Geometry of Space
"Geometry of Space" was drawn from P.P. Pasolini's film "Geometry of Love" which has also inspired Templin's recent work with its suggestion that the structures of spaces are as fragile as the structures of relationships. Her recent work is about the balance in the relation of spaces - existing ones and proposed ones – and between the public and private in our lived experience of spaces.
Her work has explored intersections between Photography, Architecture and Sculpture, employing the medium of photography in a very sculptural manner, playing photography's purportedly transparent portrayal of spaces against its own physicality as a potentially sculptural medium.
"I am interested in the creation of models that function as 'interpretations of spaces.' Within these models I combine and melt photographs taken of public spaces, particularly the urban environment, with abstracted 'private spaces.' These combinations of photographs made in different spatial situations appear as purposely rough 'inserts' - images or almost abstract visual interventions. Handprinted large photographs are the results of these photographic journeys into my own models and handmade landscapes which are then later used for my large-scale installations.'"
